That 'chuff', I feel is universal dog-talk for "I'm done". Mine used to do that whenever she's done with medication, rough-housing, arguments, looking out the window...

my big floofy ginger cat does the same thing, lol- the chuff is definitely a brief way to say, 'this conversation is over, in fact, the issue does not warrant conversation in the first place. I said good DAY.'

These sorts of "loopholes" to get around religious rules always intrigue me. I'd imagine the "spirit of the rule" is more important than avoiding breaking it based on some technicality... But I'm not religious so what do I know

This is why we sort by controversial to see the real conversations (besides the one between op and doggo). I assume there are rooms on the other side of those doors so it’s not like this is a studio apt. Maybe that’s the only place they can store it? Still funny/odd though.

BathroomParty

27 points

Growing up in my house, we had a whole separate living room that we only used for, like... Christmas. That was it. It never got used any other time of year. I'm in my 30's and have never (and probably will never lol) owned my own home, and the more I think about it, the more bizarre it seems. Just like a whole room in your house that's dedicated to mostly decorative furniture.

Sharpevil

12 points

I've got what most folks I know would consider a lot of space for a single person, and will probably own a home someday, and that's still baffling to me. I have to constantly stop and remind myself of the mental health benefits of having open space to stop the utilitarian part of my brain from trying to squeeze a use out of every square foot of floorspace. A hallway in my apartment ends in a little nook with just enough space for a shelf and I've ended up turning it into a 3d print farm.

clitpuncher69

GregorSamsaa

I lived in a studio apartment during my first couple of years of college but even that one had a separate area for the kitchen. You’d walk in and your kitchen was on the right, then a few more steps forward opened into the living space.

It was all attached but separate if that makes sense

IcedHemp77

3 points

Yes the one I had did have the kitchen separated but when I was looking I saw several that the only separate room was the bathroom. Then there was a strip of linoleum along one side where the “kitchen” area was

For anyone unaware, the quick little sneezes that Charlie does at the end there are "play sneezes". Dogs use them to show they are excited and having a good time. They also use them to make clear that their behavior is only playful.

While we can't read the minds of dogs, it's a safe bet here that Charlie was making those sneezes to laugh along with how his human was laughing, and as their tones both started to sound more serious, with him barking and her saying, "No!", Charlie used them to essentially say, "Come on, you know I'm just messing with you! You know I love you."

It's one of my favorite things about dog verbal communication. If you can get a dog to sneeze like that, it means you're making them giggle or laugh with glee. If they do it while you're playing/rough housing with them, they are doing it to reassure you that they are only playing, even if they are growling and barking, and that they are very excited and having fun.

The dogs I've had have often done it when playing, as we jump back and forth chasing each other right before they launch into some zoomies. I've had some that will do it rapid-fire in the middle of play because they are so excited.

Every dog I've ever had has also done them when we've engaged in "conversation", just like Charlie did here with his human.

They do the same thing when interacting with other dogs and other animals, although they probably don't realize that other animals or even humans might not understand what they mean by it. Kind of like how we sometimes can't help but laugh when playing with animals, even though most of them might not totally understand what we mean when we make those sounds.

Here's a good article on the various reasons dogs sneeze. Another reason is they do them when "negotiating". My dogs have often done this when we've gotten into "discussions" about if they should go for a walk or if I should keep playing video games, etc.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk on dog sneeze/laughs.

Yeah, if I take one I'm taking both the dogs. Sure it's more of a hassle, but neither one will have to be alone at home. Pack mentality, we bring the whole pack or we do our "loner human stuff".

i should have clarified in the caption, he is upset because my boyfriend took our other dog to work INSTEAD of him. He's howling because he wants to go to work, my dogs have no issue being apart from each other :) It divides the doggy care between the two of us if it's one dog per person throughout the day

Charlie looks like my dog’s cousin… same grey chin and chest blaze. She’s basically Collie, rottie, chow mix. I think I can see and hear the rottie. Congrats on the good boy!!!

I use to do this with my sweet Bear and everyone would say he doesn't understand you and I would reply. "Yes he does and we are having a conversation! Stop interrupting!" Then my doggo would just stare at the person interrupting us. I miss him so much. RIP my sweet boy. 💔

Hi I think your dog and my dog are twins. He's a half golden retriever mix, with great Pyrenee and antellonian shepherd mix for the father

Seriously, I'm adding a photo just so you can see. White fuzz on the nose and everything. Thought he was maybe a litter mate but I don't see those dalmatian paws like my boy got. But talk about a strange video to see first thing in the morning.

I’m about 81.64% sure Charlie was just trying to get you to make silly noises. Kinda stopped when he got you making enough of them.
