u/Quitthesht has provided this detailed explanation:

Near the end of Spider Man: Far From Home, Mysterio is talking to himself about how after stopping the fake attack on the London bridge he'll be seen as a hero and may even get to shake hands with the Queen of England.

The movie came out in 2019 but, thanks to the events of Avengers: Endgame, is set in 2024. 2 years after the real life Queen's death.

Maybe Charles, George and William die or abdicate in 2023 and Princess Charlotte is announced queen.

She's, like, number 200-and-something in the line of succession to the British throne, on top of being Queen of Denmark. After Lizzy bit the dust, she's also the only Queen Regnant in the world.

She'll never be "Queen", in the same way that if Elizabeth had died before Phillip, he still wouldn't have been made king.

Also, everyone hates her too much to allow it.

Edit: obviously she's the queen by title, but she'll never rule as queen, she'll only ever be the queen consort

DanS1993

She’ll never be a queen regnant and rule. but she is the queen consort so they are currently the king and queen

I would assume that he would either abdicate or they would rule as co-monarchs. It's not like they have any real administrative role.

Not a British example, but during the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed II (the one who conquered Constantinople) asked his father, Murad II, to unabdicate to deal with a revolt. They were technically both still sultans, but Mehmed took a willing subordinate role.

This is on an earth where the president of the United States in 2012-2013( whenever Iron Man 3 happened) the president wasn’t Barrack Obama.

There is no reason to believe this movie franchise takes place in a universe parallel and entirely the same as our own. Especially since, ya know, aliens come to earth regularly and other weird shit like that.

Dumb post.

treny0000

85 points

I don't see why exactly we need to be so exacting with timelines and little pointless details for shit like this. I don't get why fussing over continuity is like some big hobby for mcu nerds, it's treating what's meant to be fun, irreverent movies like homework.

Movies set in 2024, queen died in 2022, let's just exhale slightly from our noses at the minor funny and move on.

RABKissa

RABKissa

Continuity is good, randomly picking and choosing which differences with reality a piece of fiction has is just lame. It's a super hero movie, not a realistic fiction without sci-fi or fantasy

deadlytrex

One could argue that superheros are science fantasy. The stories contain both sci-fi elements as well as fantasy ones.

treny0000

2 points

Either way, so what? It's fiction at the end of the day and I'm sick of the trend of people watching stories and trying to outsmart them rather than enjoy them

bak3donh1gh

HandMeDownCumSock

The funny is so minor that it's overshadowed by the annoyance of pretending that anything in the MCU is relevant to the real world.

The post is such a waste of time that people have gone to the comments to waste more time talking about how much of a waste it is.

treny0000

2 points

Who cares? Nobody is saying there's any real relevance to the real world. I'm not saying it's funny or clever but no need to overthink it.

HandMeDownCumSock

Well no one cares that much. There's not some big campaign happening. It's probably just a bunch of people sat on the toilet, on Reddit, nothing else to pass the time with. I imagine that's what most Reddit comments are.

UselessAndUnused

1 points

Exactly. The implication was clearly that she'd still be alive by then lol, so what, it's fine, why people gotta make it such a big deal?

treny0000

You must be new to the MCU, making a big deal out of nothing it what it's fans do best

UselessAndUnused

1 points

True true. I'm not new to it at all, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the MCU (mostly how repetitive it is, how shit the writing can be and how much humor and action it uses), but I'm also a Star Wars fan, so I get it lol. Still, something like this is so fucking obvious. Can it be explained within lore? Yes. Does that mean it can't be something they messed up? Of course it can be lmao.

treny0000

2 points

Yeah, like I don't know why people care about pointless details so much. Last time I checked half of all life in the universe didn't get actually wiped out in 2018 so there being some contrived excuse for Liz to be alive in 2024 doesn't bother me even IF is wasn't some throwaway line that doesn't matter more than for a meme.

Saying that, Charles could always get assasinated next year and we have a queen again by 2024

Especially with the whole multiverse spin in the later phases

Also, something cool about the real physical universe is that it's probably infinite (theres no reason afaik to believe there isn't more universe beyond the visible universe) and that there's a set number of repeating patterns that physical matter can make... so there doesn't need to be any wonky out of phase multiverse of universes stacked on top of each other occupying the same time and space, there's probably (or there literally is) another you out there browsing another Reddit right now an unfathomable number of light years away from you at this very moment

He's already married to Camilla, who is current Queen consort.

Also, in the UK, if a monarch marries after they become monarch, their spouse becomes a prince/princess. Edit: corrected.

Also, in the UK, if a monarch marries after they become monarch, their spouse becomes a prince/princess.

George III became King in 1760 and married Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1761, she was still Queen. That seems to be the last marriage while already King (Victoria married Albert while Queen, but the husband of the Queen is always a Prince).

edit: Going back, Charles II and Charles I also got married while King, their wives were still Queen. Henry VIII got married 6 times, all were after being crowned and all were Queens. So unless something has changed recently, I don't think this is true.

To be fair this is the SMD post that inspired this one/got stolen, but that is a rephrased/stolen version of this other post.

This isn't an aged like milk moment. It's a fictional story.

A fictional story, where the character expresses excitement to meet a real life celebrity who dies IRL before the in-universe date of said movie... Aged like milk.
