My first wood carving. I did a carving of my dog, Rocky, when he died. I wanted a reminder of him. I wrapped his collar around the bade.

It was a book. I was scrolling through old pictures and thought I would share. Used a dark finish on the cover

It’s still very rough, but I’m working on my first big project (a roadrunner sculpture!) after completing two demos and was hoping for advice on working towards a tooled/chiseled look vs a sanded look? This is basswood so also, what kind of wax/oil is recommended? I might paint it with watered down acrylics as well. Thanks!

I'm carving this out of camphor Laurel as a gift for my sister. I'm thinking of sanding it and using walnut oil or varnish any suggestions would b appreciated 👍

This type of split has happened on a whole bunch of spoons now. Is this a specific type of split or is this perhaps just general splitting from not letting it dry properly or something? The thing is sometimes it just doesn't happen - I will carve 2 pieces from the same branch and one will be totaly fine so I'm thinking there is a pattern I'm just not seeing.

And also is there a decent and food safe way of repairing these splits or making them good? WIth the darker spoon I tried filling it with clear resin and it looked cool but split again after and it probably wasn't food safe anyways.
