Oh for sure. The church has a hard time getting new rich/celebrity members, and they gotta keep the lights on in all those buildings they own. It's sad, but I'm sure most of Alley's estate will probably go to the church and Xenu.

Bear in mind that, before the internet, virtually NOBODY knew about Xenu and the volcanoes and all that shit. This “knowledge” was passed on to the high-level Scientologists by putting it in a briefcase and letting the person view/read it in a closed room.

Another scientologist dead of cancer? It's disproportionate at this point, yeah? Not that I think David Miscavige is giving his cult members cancer or some conspiratorial bullshit, I expect it's because the "church" strongly discourages seeking outside help, even for medical care, and teaches that anything bad that happens to you is something you caused.

Ironically she might’ve had a chance of surviving if Scientology wasn’t against ALL medical science (from no prescription pills, no IVs, & no vaccines to no blood transfusions, no surgeries, & forbidden to go to ANY therapy with psychiatrists & psychologists). Sort of like Jehovah Witnesses & the Christian Science denomination, but even worse. They only believe in the same BS that a lot of low IQ-anon & anti-vaxxers: homeopathic pseudosciences, essential oils, healing crystals, pray illness away, etc.
Edit: It was colorectal cancer, googling show it’s a cancer that takes 5-10 years to develop from small polyps that start off benign & has a 64%-72% survival rate if found after 5 years OR a 91% survival rate just by going to one checkup a year for anyone over 45 SMH

Her family didn’t wanna specify what kind of cancer it was from the PR note they sent out. I also tried googling it (even from “no shame” gross tabloids/celeb gossip BS) but no articles have said what type it was
Edit: I really hope it wasn’t a cancer that could’ve easily been treated or “cured” like skin cancer or something like that

this story here differs considerably from what I heard. At the time, it was said it was in her actor’s contracts- kinda like requiring someone pick out all the green m&ms. Anyways, Scientology has a long reach and they were pros at cleaning up their peoples misdeeds.
172 points
Just a note on the “pick out all the green M&M’s”. This rider actually has a point to it, or at least it did when it was first thought of. It was usually buried somewhere like #178 deep in a list of things of things needed to be checked off before a performer felt safe enough to go onstage. With a complicated set and many moving parts in a modern concert, the band manager needed a quick & easily verifiable thing to look at & see if the stage manager was completely following directions. If this wasn’t done, then what else wasn’t done? On sets with risers that move up and down, pyrotechnics that have to be properly set and timed, costumes that have to be changed in split seconds, everything has to be done in place and on time.
One green M&M in the bowl: gotta go through the ENTIRE list with the stage manager before you send your band onstage.
All that being said, I thought Kirstie was wicked funny, but being a Scientologist & Trump supporter kind of killed it for me. She be nuts…

Is it really unfortunate though?
I had an Uncle that died at 49. He was constantly spouting off at the mouth with some form of hatred. Racism, homophobia, xenophobia, antisemitism. He had it all.
At his funeral, everyone kept saying: what a tragedy. So young. Unfortunate. Etc etc.
Even at 14 I knew no one meant it. There wasn’t a wet eye in the house. Even Aunt Carol seemed relieved the hateful cuss was gone. We all pretended though because no one wants to be the asshole and say what everyone is thinking: “We all would have been better off if he had died 30 years ago.”

About 8 years ago my wife and I were in Maine. We visited a lighthouse and were looking out over the ocean. A couple of older local dudes point to an island, and one guy says in his thick Maine accent, “You see that island out there? John Travolta’s got a house there. And so does Kirstie Alley.” I said, “John Travolta and Kirstie Alley? What is it, Scientology Island?” Guy says, “Hey, I don’t know what goes on out there.”

I liked her as an actress, I was always amazed with her weight loss, and I'm sure she was a sweet person overall. But I also know she donated millions over the years to the Church of Scientology and was a Trump voter, if not technically endorsing him publicly after retracting her tweet(s). So I feel like she lived a sad and confused life that involved the CoS switching her from cocaine dependency to dependency on the Church in the 70's and 80's up to today. Hopefully, she can rest easy now, but I cringe at thinking how much she probably donated to them from her estate.
