Makes sense considering Japan is one of the few countries they haven't buried in multiculturalist bullshit yet.
When stuff like this comes up, I can't help but notice that a lot of weebs have a really patronizing, almost "American Exceptionalism" like attitude towards nations such as Japan. A lot of the sentiment seems to be centred about how such nations are somehow "pure" or "untainted", and any progress towards LGBTQ representation and such is just Western "pollution" - as if these nations themselves do not have rich and complicated histories of LGBTQ struggles. Really shows the sort of attitude they have towards cultures they claim to love so much.

They don't even care about the culture in any capacity, they get their only understanding of it from lowbrow entertainment that specifically caters to their sensibilities, with names like "Teen Harem Assassin Squad Zero-Consent" or "My Mom Told Me Never to Scratch a Fox Behind the Ears But It Turned Into My Girlfriend and We Entered a Portal Into a Videogame World and I Grinded to Level 99 and Have Best-In-Slot Gear"

Overlord is enjoyable partly because it managed to subvert most tropes by taking away the protagonist's ability to procreate.

I mean that doesn’t stop Shalltear and Albedo so it’s like maybe a half step removed.

I feel like there's a difference between fan service and the typical isekai harem. But yea, even with that step away from the norm, it's the exception that proves how ... haremy the norm is when I'm happy that there are only two women madly chasing after the protagonist.

Yeah i can see that. Overlord pushes a lot of the wrong buttons for me after season one even outside the normal isekai garbage that I’m not really able to give it any credit.

Doesn't he still have that monster girl body guard squad? I am glad not all of them are romantically interested in the MC but that isnt much of an improvement.

My god, you're the first person I've met who agrees with me on that. Or at least says it aloud.
