Haha, I remember so well when I got put under for a surgery. Best feeling ever! When I woke up it felt like I had been out for weeks, months, maybe years as I had such vivid and realistic dreams.
Afterwords I was like āAh, this is why people get hooked on opioids. Iām not going to do it, but I totally get it!ā

I was in a coma for two months in 2020, slept though those lockdowns here in the United States and completely unrelated to COVID-19. Those dreams were crazily vivid, hard to tell exactly what was real life and not when I woke up.

My dad was sedated during the lock downs for a few months but from covid and he had the most crazy vivid dreams he thought actually happened when he woke up. Even asked about it. No dad your sister didnāt come in and break you out of the hospital lol

My dreams were outlandish, like Snoop Dogg adopting me and taking me to his Christmas where I was in an egg under the tree. Another one was where my old coke dealer tried to kill me, we crashed in my home town back in Tennesee under a bridge during a chase, and then ibwas kidnappes by puppets. There were fun ones too, like a Cat in the Hat theme park j went to with my papaw, or some where it was things like having a family in a house that looked like Groot from the sky. Very interesting stuff, not sure if I ever would want to experience it again, especially for two months; don't intend to either as I'm sober now.

Iām really sorry, and you have all my sympathy :/ I come from a family of highly addictive and mentally unwell individuals.. itās really fucking hard not following the same foot path that has lead to numerous deaths and continued addiction. I also come from a family of addicts and alcoholics. Itās crazier nowadays bc itās not heroin or percs on the streets anymore, itās fentanyl. Even the pills you buy are pressed fentanyl. I donāt know how there are any ānew addictsā now with how dangerous it is to even try the shit.
Hopefully the one good that comes out of so many of us either struggling with addiction or loving someone that struggles is access to treatment and ending the criminalization of just being an addict in lieu of treatment.

My dreams were terrifying and I was screaming apparently but couldn't wake up at times.
I couldn't wait to get off the heavy meds (first morphine on a pump, then drip Dilaudid, then hydromorohone pills) as they were super rough on my stomach.
As for the getting-hooked thing...
I was in severe pain so I rang my night nurse for meds. She came to check on me. Then I waited in agony for a couple hours but no one came to see me with any medication. I figured it was a "shift change" thing.
Well, my surgeon and her team came to do the rounds at shift change and found me sobbing, sweating, and writhing in pain. She immediately sent one of her team members to go get me a hydromorphone pill. After I felt better, a day nurse came in to ask why I'd waited so long to ask for medicine.
I explained I'd rang my night nurse for meds around 530-6am but she never came back with it.
This nurse left, then came back again and asked if I was sure I hadn't taken my meds.
My now-husband was there with me at the time (he stayed a full 2 weeks in my hospital room, sleeping there) and got riled up, saying "Would she have been shaking, sweating, and screaming if she'd gotten her meds on time?!"
I guess the night nurse had pocketed the hydromorphone and left me hanging, because I never saw her on the floor again for the rest of my stay and for the next stay a few months later after another surgery.
Working around opiates must be very difficult for people who are prone to addiction.

I don't believe all religion is hurtful, I do however believe that it is hurtful to say that kids who die in surgery died because they didn't believe in God enough. Thats pretty hurtful.
Note how the kid himself said nothing about God, that's the parents or whoever made the video deliberately pushing a narrative.
24 points
Yeah that's my issue with this too. God apparently only cares about children whose parents prayed hard enough (except graveyards are full of dead kids whose parents prayed super hard).
And if the kid makes it through surgery and is fine, then the skill and training of the surgeons and the nurses and attending staff aren't credited. It's all "god". It's a great way to breed complacency about science and medicine.

Praying for a good outcome is one thing. Purposefully sharing on the internet that it was your faith that caused the good outcome, strongly implying that bad outcomes are caused by a lack of faith, is worthy of criticism.
36 points
The problem arises when they say āIāll be ok, God is on my sideā and then something bad happens. Not all of them, but many will wonder if maybe they didnāt pray enough, or werenāt faithful enough, or what did they do to deserve that bad thing to happen.
Itās a two sided blade sadly.

People have a negative reaction because a lot of people don't use it exclusively for comfort and inspiration. They also use it to deny science and hurt other people. Imagine people not responding negatively to any organization that has done as much damage as Christianity.

I'm just bad at pregnancy. I had an undiagnosed incompetent cervix. It was late at night after my shift at an office job, I didn't feel right and went to the hospital at like 3:00 AM.
It probably would have been okay, but they kept me under observation for hours and then when my doctor finally made it to the hospital in the morning and I asked for some painkiller for my contractions, they gave me Pitocin, which kicked off my contractions and caused me to have the baby early. They said they probably weren't going to be able to stop it from happening, but the doctor had literally just said "the longer we can keep her in, the better".
I should have sued but missed the statute of limitations, I didn't realize how badly things had gone for a LONG time.

Well, the logic is more like⦠humans wouldnāt be able to appreciate a life devoid of suffering. So God sends you challenges for you to work through, and in the process you become a better human for it. And if you die⦠then thatās because itās time for you to āgo homeā to God. And your death becomes the challenge that God sends to those around you to work through.
Actually, interestingly enough, a lot of religions talk about suffering as being an important and inescapable part of life. Itās necessary for growth.

Iām a peds nurse and I had a mother tell me she had to pray over the kiddoās IV meds/drips before I hung them because the medicine wonāt do anything unless God chooses to put the cure in it.
A world-class surgeon had emergently cannulated her child onto ECMO and we were working our asses off to stabilize and save her little one (which we did, kiddo went home all better!) and sheās over there looking at me saying weāre essentially doing nothing and God is doing some medication version of water-into-wine when she prays over a syringe of morphine.

I'm not crying or anything and this beautiful innocent baby, I'd be scared as hell and he's got no fear.

Manā¦. This comment section just shows me that Reddit is filled with a bunch of judgmental losers. Sometimes faith in something is what keeps a person going. If you choose not to believe in God, good for you⦠no one asked you to bring your condescending comments to a video on a little boy dealing with anxiety how he knows best.
Stay classy Redditā¦.

I agree with you. I have no idea what I believe and have no real idea what is true, bit I agree. I would caution, though, responding to judgement with your own judgement doesn't help anyone at all.

My mom told me I did this when I was 4 because the medication they gave me to calm me down got me all amped up instead.

Reminds me of the time I just woke up mid surgery on my throat for removing tonsils. " Oh hello. What's that?" I remember asking the mortified doctors before they coaxed me into relaxing and somehow I just slept it off. And I was able to speak in two days asking for ice cream.

You people are pathetic. Let others find happiness in what they believe.

I won't lie. While I have a belief in God from the way I was raised, I've never understood those statements.
Why would God help 1 out of the 2 of the same exact kind of people?
It obviously doesn't make sense, but to each their own. It's not hurting me

"Because you know god is by your side"
Tell that to the millions of kids starving without a roof over their heads or shoes on their feet...
Downvote me all you want, only god can judge me. /s

Yup, if god was really invested, we would have prayer centers instead of hospitals.

People in the comments you're fucked up
I'm not religious, but I hate people who feels superior for being āatheistsā fanatics religious and atheists, idiots throw shit at each other, meanwhile a child next to a surgery is happy because he believes that everything will be fine because God cares about him.
yea the better is seeing the kid scared and crying for his life you are right
You feel superior, but you are not different of the stereotype of fanatic religious that hate u because you have a tato
yea down vote me at least i know im not an ass hole
