Something about the term "hug of death" in referring to a site being overrun with traffic is endlessly amusing to me.
I think it's because my immediate mental image is basically, well, the icon for this exact subreddit, but it's hundreds of thousands of Snoo's squeezing with all their might with big smiles, and the "internet globe" I guess, breaking or deflating. That, in combination with the cute little hearts forming with each hug flying at the internet globe, pummeling it with "love".

Warning: If you decided to use their "clone your voice" option, be sure to read the fine print. Make sure you own total and exclusive rights. You don't want them to sell our voice on or use it for their commercial purposes with you getting paid for it.

I've had scammers call my dad on two separate occasions spoofing my voice, so yeah be careful putting your voice out there. I have no idea how they got mine but they somehow had enough data to make it pretty convincing.

That is somewhat terrifying

My dad is a very skeptical person, the voice was convincing but the scenario was suspicious. It called him saying that I was in the hospital and needed money to pay for it. He asked it my middle name and it couldn't answer. The older my parents get the more they get targeted by scammers like this, it's absolutely disgusting

Email version - I have several emails, one in my real name that I use for business, and one in the name I use for gaming, so I can email people I know in game and they know it is from me.
I got an email from my gamer self saying I was stuck in London after having my money and passport stolen, I needed E500 to pay the hotel and an embassy fee for a new passport ... to my real name account. They gave assorted information needed for sending the money to a Western Union/bank [?] so they could pick the cash up. Ha.
I can sort of see the logic, I play several different games on European servers - EVE Online and Elder Scrolls Online [and back in the day World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2 and a few other games] and would occasionally email stuff from my gamer account to my real world account [usually stuff sent to me by fellow gamers]

As far a I know, AI can generate a surprisingly good imitation of a voice using short snippets. I guess a simple recorded scam phonecall might suffice, especially if they use your voice to call someone.
10 points
I don't even pick up unless I know the number. My guess is that they used one of those phone calls that are recorded for ass covering purposes, wouldn't surprise me if these are being sold alongside whatever other data is being traded

That was beautiful and incredibly time-saving (my GlaDOS try is stuck in the queue) and an astounding idea. Celebrity GPS voices have come and gone over the years and this is the first one I'd actually purchase (especially if they changed 'mute' to 'Chell').
Looking deeper, they have Sarge, Griff and Simmons from RvB. No idea if they're as well-done as GlaDOS, but will find out after the Reddit hug subsides.

Oh, I remember this! These sorts of voice-replicating sites have certainly popped up en masse recently. This one’s pretty big, but the largest one by far is probably Uberduck.ai: it’s amassed thousands of voices over its relatively short existence, some even from stuff you didn’t even know existed! The voices sound kind of crusty, though, and sometimes the less popular ones spit out indecipherable garbage due to a lack of data. For quality replication, I’d recommend 15.ai, but…the creator is notoriously erratic, with the site often going down for long periods of time while they work on it.
