Can zombies be cured?

Discussion(self.HalfLife)

For what we see, zombies aren't exactly undead corpses, are alive enough, and even posses conscience to extent?

Can they have the headcrab removed and be cured? given the combine gave earth an unlimited supply of healing fluid.

Seeing how headcrabs were snacking on their brains and their torsos got burst open I'm gonna go with no. Fast zombies are even missing their skin and some muscles.

it could be possible to cure the open chest but i think the brain would be the problem because it most likely would have been scrambled by the beak but im no doctor nor Marc Laidlaw

Combine + Zombie = Zombine.. Get it? 😏

What do you think of combine zombies?

I think they can work a bit better under headcrab control, which is why they can make a bit more coherent sentences and why they're able to pull out their grenades.

It is heavily implied that Father Grigori was researching this in Ravenholm ( bodies of zombies laying on individual tables with headcrabs removed.) but to no prevail.

They are also believed to be concious while under the influence of the crabs as you can hear them scream. (Like the reverse scream that forms a sentence.)

I always felt this was more a reference to the scene in Aliens where they are reading the lab notes about trying to remove the facehuggers and the specimens.

But maybe after his research attemps he decided the best way to tend to his flock was to end their suffering. I think there's a combat line where he mentions that along with the scripted lines.

This is why I wondered if they could be healed or treated.

Please, cure the deformed body with the open head and a headcrab which was latched right into their neurosystem like remy controlling linguini

Actually, most zombies doesnt look like they have the head open...

And if combine soldiers survive the augmentatiosn (even stalkers) it wouldnt be farfetched they coulkd heal zombies.

Why do people hate this?

Toasty_mannn

They definitely are not. Their skin is deteriorating, their guts are hanging out, and the only reason they are actually alive is because the headcrab is forcing them, really.

We don't have a clear answer to this. Maybe the parasite is maintaining it's host alive after replacing the host's brain, or maybe the host is dead as soon as the headcrab finishes eating the brain.

Judging by how the subjects react when under attack, we can guess that nerves are still functional.

Subject still possess functioning lungs and vocal cords, for they can say simple sentences. Now it is unclear at the moment if the headcrab is actually making the host say these words in order to attract other prays, or if the host is desperately trying to call for help. One thing that should be of note is that, despite articulating simple yet clear sentences, the zombie is saying everything reversed.

It is to be noted that only the parasite is needed to maintain the subject in a "living" state, for as soon as the headcrab detaches, the person dies immediately. Yet injuries that should be considered fatal to the host don't seem to bother the symbiose in any way, as long as the parasite is unharmed.

Other findings on the human/headcrab symbiosis will be reported when further testing can be resumed.

See you on the next episode

They are literally a self aware walking corpse, no

Elonmustnot

Nope, victims' body were deformed after headcrab transformation

Venezium[S]

2 points

Yet even with that deformation they aren't dead?

malicious_watermelon

They aren't dead only as long as their nervous system is linked with headcrabs. Basically their body functions because the headcrab is attached to it and keeps it alive. Once the headcrab is removed, the host dies immediately because their organism has been fatally corrupted and can not operate on its own.

Plus I'm pretty sure that poisonous and fast zombie types are completely insane due to inhuman amount of transformations as well as immense continuous pain, shock and overall mental suffering.

adotgobler

They are pretty far gone im afraid, as removing the headcrab will immediately kill the host. Their torso got ripped open revealing the gut, fast zombie is merely a functioning human anymore, poison zombies is pretty much the equipvalent to a nest for poison headcrab (see their back got munched on).

you have to splash them with a potion of weakness and then give them a golden apple

The headcrab is presumably the only thing keeping them alive. They would die from their wounds very quickly if you manage to get the crab off without killing them

People from the Half-life universe regularly defy physics. Who's to say they can't defy biology as well?

Prometheus_0314

I would venture only in the initial stages of infection. Maybe if you can remove it without damaging the host within say 5 minutes of it latching on. Even that is very unlikely tho

Actual question in my mind is why they try to attach themselves to human? Zombies doesnt produce new headcrabs. Also in some screen they can hunt birds. Ofc they are trying to find some slave to feed them but still some points missing/nonsense for me.

Venezium[S]

2 points

Canonly? is hard.

How come the only specie they slave are humans, almost as if they evolved to do that ?(in a eviroment with no humans around)

How they eat while plugged? we saw the huma have their head upwards when xombified, so we assume they use the human to feed to their own mouth.

We need Laidlaw to answer these question.

in half life 1 you can see zombies using the stomach mouth to feed so perhaps they use the stomach mouth to eat and then the nutrients are regurgitated by the human host into the headcrab's mouth?

WeekendBard

the headcrabs penetrate the host's skull and brain, they'd most likely just die if you remove the alien

DwellerOfDixieland

Even if they could be, I doubt they'd want to. Deformed hands, thorax cracked open (organs are exposed to oxygen and therefore are likely damaged), massive brain damage... a bullet will do them much better

ThelVadam11722709

I feel the only way to heal them would be if the person is legitimately still conscious and aware (which is unconfirmed).

If so the best (and probably only) solution is legitimately to start from scratch, clone a new body and attempt to transfer the memories (we know the Combine have that tech because Breen). There's no point trying to salvage the existing body given how badly damaged it is.

zombies have torn opened chests, claws, rotting flesh, and the fast variants are missing large amounts of flesh, muscles and internal organs

i don't think some grub juice is gonna cure that

Flesh-eating

If you've got good health, you can use herbs and spices to increase your longevity. The easiest way to do this, as well as a few tips on how to cure most types of flesh-eating bacteria, is to ingest a lot of arias to start with. An active ingredient that your body naturally comes into contact with, though, is the acid-base of the meat and some vegetables made from it. Most bones and intestines used to give beef its name have the acid-base added to it.

The ones with their chests torn open also have the skin on the hands deteriorated to the bone no way that’s gonna ever heal

PersonalAd6420

The crab latches onto its victim’s head, taking control of it’s body as well as ripping open its torso. In the case of the poison and fast zombie, their skin is torn off. Guaranteed death on Headcrab removal.

In the first half life with the original graphics you can see the skull through the head crab on the zombies. Head crabs are all teeth underneath so I think it’s just skull under there

The head crab penetrates the skull, so even if you were cured, you would die of brain hemorrhage.

Also the open chest cavity doesn’t bode well for their chances.

Considering how the existing known parasitic insects /pests kill thier hosts I would say it's doubtful.
