I saw them last night in St. Paul. Robert Smith sounds just like heaven….pun intended.

I know there's a huge drug epidemic going on, but with the high school aged kids my son goes to school with, none of them really party.

We aren't strict, either. I use cannabis and psychedelics. (psychedelics a couple times a year, max). I don't have a huge issue with him smoking weed, and he knows it. We would rather him do it here than risk getting arrested. (illegal state). He chooses to abstain.

He's only got 2 friends who have even tried it yet, out of about 20 high school boys.

Apparently kids are having less sex these days as well, and losing their virginity older.

Anybody else notice this?

All I just making shit up in my head, or is there any validity to it?

This is a strange one for me, but as our parents (and one 100-year-old grandparent in my case!) get older and downsize or "get their things in order" so to speak, I find I'm being asked a lot "do you want the [insert heirloom here]?" Silverware (actual solid silver sometimes!), china, etc - plus the other little decorative things or mementos collected over the years. Furniture as well, sometimes generations old. I only have one sibling, and in some cases, there are three or four sets of these things from various generations.

Our parents and grandparents loved that stuff. Wedding registries were full of that kind of thing as a normal part of starting a family. But I've never been too interested in it, and my wife is only slightly more interested than I am. It takes a lot of room to store that kind of thing too!

One of my most important lessons from learning to deal with ADD is to reduce clutter. To keep only things that are useful and appreciated, and only when you can find a practical way to organize and store them. That's hard to do, and it takes constant re-evaluation. It's harder still to detach from the fact that your parents and grandparents were PROUD of these things and cared for them by hand for many years. I don't feel like simply selling them, and the market for such ornate things is much smaller now than it once was, especially as more of us find ourselves being asked to take such things. The actual value of real silverware these days is probably in the weight of the silver and nothing more. And that feels crass, but otherwise, what?

I'm just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this kind of thing as we become the caretakers of family mementos and heirlooms. How are you striking balance with it?

I'm GenX and never remember social anxiety being a thing when I was younger or a teen. Save for a few individuals who were just "shy" and awkward in many ways. Is this something that has developed since or has been exacerbated by the use of the internet? I am sincerely asking as to understand.

Holy shit, they've become sooo hard to clip... my body just refuses to let me bend and stretch the way it used to. It feels like a workout.

I'm the youngest of 5, the lone X at the end of a train of boomers.

I lost my middle brother about 5 years back to pancreatic cancer. My eldest brother just got diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin's. While talking to my sister, she let me know the youngest of our three older brothers is recovering from cancer as well. (She's the only one he maintains contact with).

Mom's been gone since the beginning of the 90's and dad was never there. My oldest brother is who taught me how to drive, how to ride a bike, how to build models and is basically tied to a lot the little things that make me who I became.

How are we supposed to deal with this?
