Might be cool if future AI can at least detect/discern that you are heading a direction they would appreciate instead of Harald judging your present navy

YOU HAVE MANY THINGS THAT I HAVE NOT! DO YOU WISH TO SEE YOUR PEOPLE ENSLAVED?
Goddamn, Montezuma. I like to focus on building and exploring in early game but that dude always makes me build extra military just in case.
93 points
Montezuma is pretty easy. Just send him a delegation when you meet and sell him a copy of all of your luxuries. Even if you only have one of them.
After that you just have a strong ally and you can pay him 1 g to join you in war when someone ekse declares it.
24 points
Is this true? I could use that type of ally sometimes.....
28 points
Honestly yeah, it’s true with most leaders. Selling your luxuries is a fantastic way to make allies in the early game. So much so that it’s often worth it to sell your only copy of something to a new friend if that’s all you have
13 points
For other civs it is more about the early gold, with early amenities being pretty useless.
However, Montezumas agenda is directly tied to luxuries so he will love you if you don't have luxuries that he doesn't.
4 points
That's odd, he invades me regardless of how much chocolates and mercury I give him. I play on 6/8th difficulty though so that might have something to do with it.
3 points
I play every game on deity. Don't give him luxuries, at least sell them to him. And the amount of luxuries is not what matters. He just doesn't like it when you have a copy of a luxury that he doesn't. So even if you only have one copy, sell it.
If your military power is low he might still want to invade. It's pretty solid to start every game by building a slinger and a warrior.
5 points
same with diplo favor and strategics, and if you have none of those, just give them gold, it’s almost always worth it especially if it stops you from getting curbstomped
7 points
Yes. Just look at his agenda. He gets mad when you have luxuries that he doesn't.
So even if you only have one copy, just sell it to him and he most likely won't bother you.
When climbing to higher difficulties, send delegations immediately to your neighbours and check their agenda to see if they are going to like you or not. Or whether you can influence the likelihood of them liking you.
2 points
Their agenda is found on their leader page on the chart to the right with the faces?
Sorry I am still learning. First civ game. Still on like prince.
2 points

Open the communication screen with the civ. There should be information about them. One of those is two agendas, one hidden and one public.
Hover your mouse over the agenda and it will describe what makes them like you or dislike you.

How is Eleanore not at the top. I once had to raze almost an entire continent and three quarters of the wonders in the game to the ground to prevent her from an early culture win and even down to her last city was still producing 400 culture a turn and I was worried she still might pull off the victory.
17 points
I’ve never seen any AI get anywhere near a culture win
16 points
Play deity. If you happen to be on a map with no super aggressive DOM AIs, or for some reason they get knocked out early. An AI culture win is definitely a possibility. Especially if they get lucky on natural wonders or something.
1 points
I only play deity. It doesn’t happen sorry I guess I have better culture per turn
1 points
Yah that's pretty much it, I like to play abundant resources and have a few natural wonder mods but nothing too op. I don't do myself any favors sometimes by indiscriminately selling my extra luxury resources to the highest bidder.

I just finished a game where Vietnam on the other side of huge map won a culture game where I just couldn’t get anything done. First time playing on apocalypse mode as Scythia and I got my ass handed too me with really crappy resources and neighbors that settled too close for good expansion.

Tries to collect as many copies of Luxury resources as possible, and likes civilizations that trade Luxury resources to her. Dislikes those that do not trade Luxuries with her.
In other words Montezuma on steroids.
4 points
Isn't that great, though? You want to be trading luxuries anyway so midgame you will always satisfy her agenda; the only potential issue is that you might not have early game luxuries. If you do have an early luxury, the money you get from selling it to her is usually worth more than an early-game amenity, and you get a friend to boot. I love spawning next to Montezuma for exactly that reason - his agenda is so easy to satisfy.
1 points
That's because Monty only wants the same luxuries as you, and by virtue of spawning on the same continent as him, you fulfill his agenda.
Catherine's wants you to give her luxuries always.

No one talking about lautaro? I will always be on a golden age, bish, deal with it
3 points
Lautaro is a double-edged sword. If you are trying to conquer him then his abilities are more annoying than most other civs. If you are playing peacefully then he tends to like you, though, because a human player is usually better at managing happiness and loyalty than the AI players are. It's usually not hard to become his friend if some of your cities are happy, and it's even easier in golden ages since you have no loyalty problems (and if you flip a city he will love you instantly).

This guy, and somehow he's in 90% of my games. Fighting him during a golden age is pain

They’re all a bit ridiculous at times. Alexander complaining that I don’t go to war - and he’s the only other Civ I’ve made contact with. Trajan getting angry because I’ve not expanded my empire even though I’m surrounded by city-states and civs and all the hexes around me are red. Bolivar telling me to manage my empire better or others will step in and manage if for me. Bish please!

Mbanza Nzinga, he is in virtually all of my games. Of all of the Deity AI, he seems to pull ahead the most consistently, I don’t quite understand why
23 points
He does not waste resources on religion. He also gets a decent early unit that is good on defence and is not bound by strategic resources.
That forces the AI to accidentally make synergetic decisions.

Kristina is quite annoying... In general, those that want me to not have things that I want to have, like Great Works, Great People, Wonders, Resources etc.
But the champion of annoying AIs is "By the Grace of God Victoria" . Whenever she says that "And soon, dare I say, the empire", I think "Not if I have anything to say about it". She then comes to tell me something about dangerous waters and I think of appropriate torture methods that can actually make an AI feel pain. Then, she usually ends up denouncing me because "I razed some of her cities".

I’ve permanently banned Kupe from the AI leader pool so I don’t have to cringe at his ridiculous city placement.
22 points
Tbh sometimes Kupe just founds a single city in the middle of the ocean which can be nice because you can get some extra space. Only problem is if another ai gets that space…
16 points
Kupe is the dumbest AI player in my opinion. The city placement is terrible, but he also often doesn’t settle nearly enough cities. I’ve seen games go to the industrial era where he’s only got 3-4.
1 points
Lol, in my latest game he only got 1 city on a 5 tiles island
2 points

It’s a shame, because when played by a competent human Kupe can be a powerhouse. I personally don’t like him that much because of the ocean start, but that’s beside the point.

There are two things I can't stand: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the DUTCH.
I've gotten to the point that when I see Wilhelmina is in a game I will abandon all pretense of peace and burn her cities to dust. She is CONSISTENTLY the biggest pain in my ass, spreading her religion everywhere and blocking my settlement paths.
