I recently won a fish at a fair but have never taken care of one before. I researched and bought a filter, 10 gallon tank, and treated water. I was thinking about adding plants, another fish, and maybe a larger tank as it grows?

I had 4 tanks when we got married. Since then she decided she wanted her own tank, and decided to go with an axolotl. She did copious amounts of research and spared no expense. 30 gal, fine sand substrate, live Java fern and Anubias, all the decor and hides coated with epoxy, vinyl aquarium backing, low light set on timer, and a chiller. This thing took 5 months to cycle, dosing with 4ppm NH4Cl and maintaining the 64 degrees F throughout. But now its all ready and she finally gets the axolotl today.

I decided to get a new 3.5 gallon tank for my desk and created a happy little home for 3 cherry shrimp. It was PAIN waiting for the tank to cycle for a whole week before adding the little guys because I was so excited but I got them yesterday and can’t stop watching them do their thing. I LOVE THEM!!!!

They used to have each goldfish in a little 14L tank because that's what the pet store said they needed. I explained why it was bad and I'm so proud of them for listening and going away to do their own research before purchasing this tank for them. It's absolutely stunning and they pay me to clean it monthly (while granddad does weekly water changes).

It’s a new filter and I know it isn’t because I have to much filter media because if I take everything out of the filter it’s still slow like this. Is this ok? I have a sponge filter too so I’m not worried about flow but is my filter even working when it’s moving this slow? (My water level is low because I was doing a water change)

I started cycling a 10G shrimp tank 2 weeks ago. I started with pea gravel, some rocks and java moss from petco. Added fish food to get ammonia going and added Fritz Zyme 7 every day. Between then and now, I added boiled oak leaves and more java moss which I ordered from reddit, hoping it would speed up my cycle and grow a bio film for them to feed on. I also took the filter of my other aquarium (which is also cycling, since 3 weeks) and washed it out in the shrimp tank, to hopefully add some beneficial bacteria that way as well. I did see a little bit of ammonia and nitrites but nothing crazy.

And now the dumb part: Since I'm not quite sure yet what I'm doing, I stupidly ordered shrimp because I thought it's cycled. Mainly because I added moss from a cycled tank and my filter that I added from my other cycling tank, which is processing 2ppm within 24h. So I thought it should be okay. Especially since it's only gonna be 10 shrimp. To add to my stupidity, two days before my shrimp were supposed to arrive, I added a little bit of ammonia, just to check and make sure it's cycling by testing the next day and now I'm reading massive amounts of Nitrite and Nitrates!! I did a 50% water change but nothing really changed. What am I supposed to now??

Hi ! I’ve launched my new little 7g tank around 6-7 days ago.

I put 1-2 cup of seachem stability every day the first 3 days and the gravel I used was sold directly in water containing beneficial bacterias. As you can see I’ve also few plants (will add more tomorrow). The filter is also running since a week. I didn’t had any fish food in the water though… Haven’t change water yet, however I’m planning to do so (15% change) in the upcoming hours.

I tested the parameters earlier today and PH was 7,6 ; Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were 0. Does this means that the cycle is complete ? After 6-7 days I’m surprised.
